This drawing combines two totally different scenes in one remarkable composition. One scene, as it were, was drawn in its own frame, with a pointed arch, over the other. However the combination of these two themes is traditional. Jonah being swallowed by the whale (Jonah 2:1-11) is a very old prefiguration of the entombment of Christ.
