More information

Jan van de Velde, one of the greatest Dutch etchers of the early 17th century, has turned Buytewech's design drawing (inv. MB 334) into a print with extreme skill.
The etching is known in two different states. In the first state the cloud formation, which can be seen in later states, is missing. Van de Velde or Buytewech did already draw in these clouds in black chalk. This makes the proof state - the only known impression - extra special.
