At the start of his career, JCJ Vanderheyden made several works with the title Jacob’s ladder. In these works, the image area is subdivided into blocks, each showing its own symbol, but which in some mysterious way seem to have something to do with each other. This early painting on paper does not have a title, but was made using the same principle.
