This drawing of a red anemone was made by botanical painter Sara Saftleven. She came from a family of painters and probably learned drawing and painting from her father Herman Saftleven the Younger. This is one of only two drawings attributed to Sara Saftleven, both in the collection of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen (inv. nos. SS 1 and SS 2). The drawings are executed in brown ink and coloured in with bodycolour. They are signed in the lower left corner. However, the function of the drawings is unknown.
