Hendrick Jacobsz. Dubbels

Amsterdam 1621 - Amsterdam 1707

The earliest known work of Hendrik Dubbels dates from 1641. So it is probable that he was already an independent painter at the age of twenty. Dubbels was mainly a naval painter and often found his inspiration in the works of maritime painter Simon de Vlieger. Probably the famous Ludolf Bakhuyzen was a pupil of Dubbels; the pupil became much more successful than his master.
