Pixel Pioneers: Three Evenings on Digital Art and Technology

As part of the Pixel Pioneers exhibition at Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen, we present three evenings of experimentation, debate, and future visions. The Night as Experimental Space: VJs, live coders, and audiovisual artists explore how technology and nightlife intersect. Technology & Queer Identity: How does tech empower the LGBTQ+ community, and where does it create new inequalities? The Future of Creativity: What does AI mean for your work?

May 28th | June 11th | July 9th
7:30 - 11:00 PM

At the same time, we look ahead. Who are today’s pioneers? And what is currently happening in the field of digital art?

To answer these questions, we head into Rotterdam. In places that provide a platform for experimentation, innovation, and emerging talent, we organize thematic evenings inspired by the artists and artworks in our exhibition Pixel Pioneers.

During these events, we offer a stage to young and emerging digital creators from various disciplines. Expect, among other things, performances about the digitalization of society, interactive installations, digital music, and digital visual culture. We explore new ideas and perspectives within the world of digital art and engage in conversations about the past, present, and future. The program creates space for experimentation, connection, and new forms of digital creativity.

WORM X BOIJMANS: IDENTITY PIONEERS

In the digital world, identity is fluid; online communities offer the ultimate freedom to (re)discover yourself. At WORM, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen explores both the freedoms and limitations of digital identity, building on the exhibition Pixel Pioneers at the Depot.

TIME IS THE NEW SPACE X BOIJMANS: FUTURE PIONEERS

July 9 | 7:30 PM – 11:00 PM | €10

Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen delves into the future of AI. Which human traits will AI take over, what predictions are being made, and how dependent will we become on AI?

During this interactive workshop evening, we gather ideas, predictions, and experiments, building on Pixel Pioneers. These insights are captured in a time capsule, which will only be opened again once Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is accessible to the public again in 2031. At Time Is The New Space, the outcome of this gathering will remain on view for two additional weeks.
