More information

Like a latterday Lampsonius, David Robbins has brought together portraits of 18 American 'talents', including Jeff Koons, Cindy Sherman, Jenny Holzer and Allan McCollum. The portraits were made by Kriegsmann Jr., a photographer known for his photos of stars from the world of light music. The most striking thing about this set of artists' portraits is that the subjects are almost indistinguishable from one another, their individuality being masked by a pose that is as unrevealing as it is flattering. With a certain irony Robbins has come out here against what the considers the hopelessly out-moded image of the artist as an excentric, alienated loner, by introducing artists of a modern type, who are quite prepared to present themselves to a potential public.
