Kandinsky's work changed radically between 1910 and 1914. He moved from narrative scenes to a completely free and abstract visual language. This 'large study' is a highpoint in this development. It is a light hearted explosion of colours, lines and forms with no clearly recognisable subject. This expressiveness is typical of Kandinsky's early abstract works. In later years he worked with more geometric forms.
