Restaurant Renilde, the name
Renilde Hammacher-van den Brande was curator at Boijmans from 1962-1978. She laid the foundation for one of the most important museum collections of modern art in the Netherlands. In addition to our Rothko, Renilde also bought work by Dalí, Magritte and Man Ray, among others. She also made major exhibitions in the museum, such as the legendary Dalí exhibition in 1970, which was opened by the surrealist master himself. Renilde Hammacher passed away in 2014 at the age of 101.

Chef Jim de Jong
Jim de Jong is chef of Restaurant Renilde. Jim is known for the outstanding restaurant De Jong in Rotterdam's Hofbogen, of which he was owner and chef until earlier this year. During his early years, Jim worked at star restaurant Le Cirque in The Hague, which at the time was led by chef Robert Kranenborg. In Montpellier, France, he was then chef-de-partie at the two-star restaurant Jardin Des Sens, before becoming co-owner and chef of De Jonge De Jong in Rotterdam in 2009. In 2013 he opened his own restaurant in the Hofbogen. Jim de Jong won the Golden Spoon (Gouden Lepel) in 2016 and was named Young Top Chef of the Year by restaurant guide GaultMillau in 2019.
Hall Coert, the name
Coert Ebbinge Wubben started working at Boijmans in 1941, became acting director in May 1945 and was director from 1950-1978. Under his management, the museum acquired the collection of D.G. van Beuningen, with masterpieces by Van Eyck, Bruegel and Titian, among others. In that year, the name Van Beuningen was added to that of Boijmans. Together with Renilde Hammacher, he also gave space to modern art and took the initiative to expand the museum with the Bodon wing. He obtained two bequests, which are still active as important funds for acquisitions, the Lucas van Leyden Foundation and the Van Rede Fund Foundation. Coert Ebbinge Wubben passed away in 2014 at the age of 99.
