The painter Bernardo Strozzi spent his early life as a Capucine monk in the monastery in Genua, Italy. After Rubens' stay in that city in 1607, Strozzi's style visibly changed. When he left the monastery, he started a successful career as a painter and left for Venice. The rich use of colour and paint in Venetian painting also left its mark on Strozzi's work.
