Special Screening: Kevin Osepa

On the occasion of Rotterdam Art Week 2025, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen organises a special screening of Kevin Osepa’s film La Última Ascensión (2022, 24 minutes), which was acquired by the museum last year. The work will be on view in the Depot on 29-30 March, and a conversation between the artist and Amira Gad, curator of modern & contemporary art will take place on Saturday March 29th at 3pm.

March 29th - 30th
11.00 - 17.00

Set against the cliffs of Curaçao, La Última Ascensión follows fisherman Rowin, who encounters the enigmatic and indigenous Shi. As their relationship deepens, memories of Rowin’s past emerge, blurring the lines between reality and mythology. Through magical realism, Osepa explores Afro-Caribbean and indigenous identities in a postcolonial context.

Kevin Osepa (b. 1994, Willemstad, Curaçao) works across film, photography, and mixed media, investigating Afro-Caribbean identity and diaspora. Drawing from personal and collective histories, his work bridges the Caribbean and the Netherlands. La Última Ascensión earned him a Gouden Kalf in 2022, and he has been recognized with the Volkskrant Visual Art Prize (2018) and the Charlotte Köhler Prize (2023). Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is the only museum in the Netherlands to hold this work in its collection.
