In celebration of ten years of patronage of the collector and art activist Han Nefkens, this summer works from his H+F Collection are on display at various points throughout the museum.
The area around the Robbrecht stairwell has been hung with a selection of photographs by the Dutch photographer Desiree Dolron and the photographic installation ‘Children’ by Jeff Wall. In gallery 51 there is a selection of five photographs by up-and-coming international talent Shirana Shahbazi (Teheran, 1974). In her work, Shahbazi explores the relationship between painting and photography, employing the themes and visual language of Western art history. On show until 6 November.
In gallery 52 there are videos on show by Zwelethu Mthethwa (Durban, 1963), David Claerbout, (Kortrijk, 1969) and Salla Tykka (Helsinki, 1973). Just as in Shahbazi’s photographs, the specific qualities of the medium play an important role in these video works. Many of the works question the viewer’s expectations. On show until 7 August.
Until 15 January 2012 various works by Ryan Gander will be displayed in the four cabinets adjacent to the old library.
