Paul van der Eerden - 'Enclosures'

Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen shows more than one hundred prints and drawings selected by Paul van der Eerden. The City Curators of the museum have invited the artist to curate this exhibition and choose works from the museum’s renowned collection. Apart from this selection and works from other collections, ‘Enclosures’ includes some thirty works by Van der Eerden himself.

Paul van der Eerden has spent time researching the museum’s collection and has uncovered surprising similarities, underlying motifs and unexpected connections within five centuries of drawings. The exhibition focuses on aspects such as mise-en-page, use of space, flatness and form. The title ‘Enclosures’ refers to the process of drawing itself: lines literally enclose a territory, but it is also a metaphor for the closed nature of the human mind and the manner in which artists give it form.

The exhibition includes works by: Fra Bartolommeo, Edgar Degas, Gilgian Gelzer, Juste de Juste, Edmund Monsiel, Ridolfo Ghirlandaio, Puvis de Chavannes, Armand Simon en Elmar Trenkwalder.
