The director of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and the director of the Port of Rotterdam Authority would like to draw your attention to the great success of this summer's exhibition XXXL PAINTING in the Submarine Wharf. This exhibition celebrates painting on a grand scale with works by Klaas Kloosterboer, Chris Martin and Jim Shaw.
XXXL Painting is the final edition of this remarkable partnership between the Port of Rotterdam Authority and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in the Submarine Wharf. Please join us for a drink in the Submarine Wharf to mark the end of the exhibition on Sunday 29 September 2013 from 4.00 to 6.00 p.m.
XXXL Painting celebrates painting on a large scale. Three great painters give their interpretation of a discipline that initially represented the Kingdom of God, then reflected the world of mankind, and finally manifested as a self-contained universe. Pure painting. Some say this led to the medium’s demise. What nonsense! Jim Shaw is a great storyteller, depicting his myths about O and I, that are actually about You and Me. Chris Martin is a great animist, reflecting human concerns on a cosmic scale with rawness and immediacy. Klaas Kloosterboer is a great sceptic, but he always finds the courage to attack words with deeds.
