Prior to the official opening of the exhibition Oskar Kokoschka Portraits of People and Animals on Saturday 21 September, several leading experts will discuss the artists life and work. On the basis of the eight themes in the exhibition, the respected Kokoschka experts from Germany, Austria and Switzerland will analyse the image of mankind in Kokoschkas work and animals as mirrors of humanity. To what extent do Kokoschkas portraits provide an image of humanism and how did this change in the course of his career?
The speakers are Prof. Dr Régine Bonnefoit, curator of the Fondation Oskar Kokoschka in Vevey and professor of art history at the University of Neuchatel; Dr Katharina Erling, art historian and co-auteur of the catalogue raisonn of Kokoschkas paintings; and Prof. Dr Patrick Werkner, head of the art collections and archives of the Universitt fr angewandte Kunst in Vienna. The discussion will be moderated by guest curator Beatrice von Bormann.
