Hand Made demonstrations - Woodcarving and 3d printing

During the exhibition Hand Made: long Live Crafts, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen will be bringing crafts to life. The museum will display more than 500 objects where short video’s illustrate the process of producing the artefacts on show. The exhibition incorporates two specially equipped workshops where craftspeople will be working continuously, as well as demonstrating various craft techniques.

Frans Dingemanse - woodcarving

Frans Dingemanse is one of the last traditional woodcarvers in the Netherlands. Part of his inspiration for his carving stems from an inspiring folk tradition originating in Zeeland in the 19th century. He carves detailed sculptures from boxwood, mainly for use as knife handles. The theme of the carving is often related to the future owner and may be symbolic or taken from the everyday life.

DVDV Design - 3d printing

David van der Veldt (1977) followed a course in cabinetmaking and then studied design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. His company DVDV Design combines new technologies with traditional crafts. DVDV Design uses computer-aided design and manufacturing in combination with laser cutters, computer numerical control and 3D printers to turn ideas into tangible objects. In Hand Made, you see DVDV working together with industrial designer Alexander Spiliopoulos.
