Daan Brandenburg Sara Vrugt Daan Brandenburg

During the exhibition Hand Made: long Live Crafts, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen will be bringing crafts to life. The museum will display more than 500 objects where short video’s illustrate the process of producing the artefacts on show. The exhibition incorporates two specially equipped workshops where craftspeople will be working continuously, as well as demonstrating various craft techniques.

Sara Vrugt - Embroidery

Sara Vrugt works as an independent fashion and textiles designer on collections, textile installations and community art projects. Vrugt makes her work with fabric and thread, humour and a strong streak of idealism. Her interest in forms of human interaction results in work that often refers to social situations. Vrugt hopes her designs will undermine existing assumptions, conventions and ideas.

Daan Brandenburg and Frans van Kuijk - Woodcarving

The Groene Woud (Green Forest), a forest of poplars in Brabant, was once the heart of a flourishing clog industry. Daan Brandenburg breathes new life into an old craft with his self-designed woodworking machine. During Hand Made, Daan Brandenburg and traditional clog-maker Frans demonstrate how traditional techniques can be a source of inspiration for new developments.

Master clog-maker Frans van Kuijk demonstrates on saturday 27th and sunday 28th traditional manual clogmaking.
