Vedute asks designers, artists, architects and people working in other creative disciplines to make an object based on the concept of space. This spring Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen presents a selection of fifteen objects. The display will include several winning entries from competitions held in art schools during the past year.
The Vedute Foundation was founded in 1991 with the aim of assembling a library of so-called ‘spatial manuscripts’. The brief is as follows: the visualisation of the concept of ‘space’ within the format 44 x 32 x 7 cm. The works fit within a standard archival box. Twenty-three years after its establishment, the Vedute collection comprises 210 interpretations of this brief. The museum is exhibiting manuscripts by, among other including manuscripts by Roy Villevoye, MVRDV (Winy Maas, Jacob van Rijs and Nathalie de Vries), Gijs Bakker and Rob van Sprang.
The collection is managed by The New Institute and selections from the collection are regularly displayed in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen’s library. The manuscripts are also exhibited by other institutions and have been the subject of several publications.
