After an exciting final on Friday January 16th 2015 at Eurosonic Noorderslag Bird in a Glasshouse was named winner Art Rocks 2014! In the Groninger Museum seven finalists competed for the first prize of € 1000. Bird in a Glasshouse wrote the song ' Multiplied ' inspired on the artwork mirror room by Yayoi Kusama (Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen).

The past year Art Rocks invited musicians to write new songs inspired on masterpieces of art. No less than 165 artists and bands were inspired by a work of art and sent a song written especially for Art Rocks. The best thirty acts  were selected by a professional jury and public votes during the semifinals at the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Centraal Museum Utrecht and the Groninger Museum, where the artists performed alongside "their" artwork. Seven young musicans made it to the finals. The music ranged from hip hop to singer / songwriter and pop to rock. Visitors could also enjoy guest performances by Art Rocks ambassadors Eefje de Visser and Akwasi and the winner of Art Rocks 2012: Try Acrobatics.

Listen to the songs composed by the finalists on the Art Rocks website.

Art Rocks

Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen first presented this music competition in 2012 with the support of the BankGiro Lottery. The successful first edition attracted talented musicians and an enthusiastic audience. In 2015 the msueum organised a second edition of Art Rocks, together with the Groninger Museum, Centraal Museum Utrecht and De Grote Prijs van Nederland. Young and old alike attended the musical events and inspiring master classes. The two songs inspired by Boijmans art works that made it to the finals will be included in the music route in the museum's multimedia tour, enabling you to hear tracks and watch video clips of the finalists on your smartphone.

Art Rocks is made possible with the support of the Cultural Participation Fund, the BankGiro Lottery, the Janivo Foundation and NORMA.
