Art Rocks is back! This time with a nationwide edition. Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, the Groninger Museum and the Centraal Museum in Utrecht invited musicians to take inspiration from iconic works in their collections in the music competition. Next to that the museum organises workshops, masterclasses and other events this autumn. Keep an eye on the Art Rocks website for the latest news.
On January 16th, visual art en music will merge at the Groninger Museum during the Art Rocks finals. Throughout the museum the seven finalists will battle for the title of this national music competition. The acts will play their own compositions inspired by an art work of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Centraal Museum Utrecht, or the Groninger Museum.
The audience can also enjoy exclusive guest performances by Art Rock ambassadors Eefje de Visser and Akwasi and winner of 2012, Try Arbobatics. At 18:00 you are welcome at the opening of the competition after which you can join one of the guided music tours through the museum. There you’ll be astonished by the intimate performances between the art works. Around 20:30 a jury will announce the prize winner of Art Rock 2014.
Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen first presented this music competition in 2012 with the support of the BankGiro Lottery. The successful first edition attracted talented musicians and an enthusiastic audience. Young and old alike attended the musical events and inspiring master classes by Giovanca, Typhoon, Ming’s Pretty Heroes and many more. The Art Rocks! Boijmans Music Competition had almost 200 entries from all musical genres. The band Try Acrobatics was announced the winner at the exciting and crowded final. The results of the first edition of Art Rocks! have been compiled into a web-based multimedia tour, enabling you to hear tracks and watch video clips of the finalists on your smartphone.
For this new edition Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen has invited the Groninger Museum and the Centraal Museum in Utrecht to join in. As in 2012, De Grote Prijs van Nederland (Grand Prize of the Netherlands) is our partner for this project. Art Rocks is made possible with the support of the Cultural Participation Fund, the BankGiro Lottery, the Janivo Foundation and NORMA.
