Art Rocks is back! This time with a nationwide edition. Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, the Groninger Museum and the Centraal Museum in Utrecht are inviting musicians to take inspiration from iconic works in their collections. Take part in the music competition, participate in one of the workshops or attend one of the many events that will be held from September onwards. Keep an eye on the Art Rocks website for the latest news on the events, master classes, participants, selection rounds and much more.
Applications for the music competition have been started. You can find the artworks at the Art Rocks website. More information is here available as well. All three museums are hosting a wide range of musical events, open to everyone. Meet the Art Rocks ambassadors, singer-songwriter Eefje de Visser and rapper Akwasi in one of the three museums. Each museum has a programme for music and art lovers, ranging from workshops to performances in front of specific artworks. The programme can be found on this website and the nationwide programme is available at artrocks.nl.
Come and vote for your favourite participant. Save the date: the selection round in Rotterdam will take place on Sunday 30 November when all the contestants will perform in the museum and you can help decide who makes it to the final.
Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen first presented this music competition in 2012 with the support of the BankGiro Lottery. The successful first edition attracted talented musicians and an enthusiastic audience. Young and old alike attended the musical events and inspiring master classes by Giovanca, Typhoon, Ming’s Pretty Heroes and many more. The Art Rocks! Boijmans Music Competition had almost 200 entries from all musical genres. The band Try Acrobatics was announced the winner at the exciting and crowded final. The results of the first edition of Art Rocks! have been compiled into a web-based multimedia tour, enabling you to hear tracks and watch video clips of the finalists on your smartphone.
For this new edition Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen has invited the Groninger Museum and the Centraal Museum in Utrecht to join in. As in 2012, De Grote Prijs van Nederland (Grand Prize of the Netherlands) is our partner for this project. Art Rocks is made possible with the support of the Cultural Participation Fund, the BankGiro Lottery and the Janivo Foundation.
