Curator Francesco Stocchi in conversation with artist Olaf Nicolai
In 2008 Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen commissioned artist Olaf Nicolai to make the football cage 'Apollo' for the museum’s courtyard. In his work Nicolai uses a wide variety of media, including photography and sculpture. His East German background means that he is highly conscious of the influence that images – think of propaganda photography – have on society. His work balances culture and nature, philosophy and advertising, expression and logic.
Curator Francesco Stocchi co-curated the exhibition ‘Brancusi, Rosso, Man Ray – Framing Sculpture’. The three artists in the exhibition explored visual representation from expressive, stylistic and conceptual angles. Stocchi has invited contemporary conceptual artist Olaf Nicolai to discuss this theme. After the interview there is a Q&A.
