What began in 1994 as a hobby has grown into a business. Esmé became fascinated by the ancient art of basketry and followed a four-year course in basket weaving in Germany. She specialises in weaving with willow rods split into narrow strips, but also uses a variety of other techniques and materials. Hofman makes her own designs but also responds to commissions and collaborates with artists and designers.
Esmé Hofman will also be working in the Hand Made studio on monday 1st of April, Easter Monday.
Weefnetwerk is a nationwide organisation of weavers, which strives to promote and improve the craft of weaving. Weaving has been practiced all over the world for thousands of years. In addition to industrial textile manufacturers, there are many amateur and professional weavers who use a broad range of techniques and colourful threads to make contemporary designs. In the past weavers used a simple weaving frame or loom. Today they also use more complex or computer-driven looms.
