Location: Hand Made: Long Live Crafts
During the exhibition Hand Made: long Live Crafts, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen will be bringing crafts to life. The museum will display more than 500 objects where short video’s illustrate the process of producing the artefacts on show. The exhibition incorporates two specially equipped workshops where craftspeople will be working continuously, as well as demonstrating various craft techniques.
De Papierderij is a traditional, artistic studio for handmade paper, printing, bookbinding and luxury board binding. Leo Hoegen, the founder of De Papierderij, is one of the few specialised papermakers in the Netherlands. He has been developing special, unique kinds of paper for thirty years. He does this independently or in collaboration with artists, designers and organisations. To create a new kind of paper, he researches various materials and production methods. Starting with a basis of old paper, cotton linen, hemp, cellulose or plants, he then adds natural, environmentally friendly materials.
During Hand Made, Leo Hoegen shows several special sorts of paper he made especially for the exhibition. With this paper he demonstrates traditional bookbinding and –printing techniques.
Artis Causa, which means ‘for the sake of art’, is the studio of Huub Rogier and Gabri Schumacher, who are both designers and goldsmiths. The company is based in Schoonhoven, traditionally known as the Netherlands’ ‘silver city’. Their work is characterised by restrained design and a skilled craftsmanship. The collection comprises large silverware items and jewellery, such as the Dutch D-Lights in which diamonds are combined in a new way with other gemstones.
