Restorations

Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen has a highly varied collection of objects made up of extremely diverse materials. Because of the collection’s great diversity and the frequency with which pieces are moved, we work with many external conservators with a broad range of expertise.

The museum has always managed the conservation of works on paper in-house and has given over the restoration of other materials to free-lance conservators, some of whom have worked with the museum for many years. Conservators are hired not only to restore works but also to make condition reports, carry out analysis and give advice on loans and display.

The museum has a limited conservation budget. A large part of the conservation work is done thanks to contributions from third parties (from the BankGiroLoterij and borrowing institutions).
