The H+F Patronage (H+F Mecenaat), founded in 2005, is an exclusive partnership between Han Nefkens and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam. The goal of the H+F Patronage is to stimulate contemporary art and artists on an international level, and to introduce them to a new audience. This goal is achieved through the collection of work by a select group of artists for a number of years, and by initiating and facilitating projects and exhibitions like 'Silvie Zijlmans. The Uninvited' at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. Han Nefkens attached the H+F Patronage to the museum for the duration of five years, from 2005 until 2010.
Works by artists David Claerbout, Ryan Gander and Sylvie Zijlmans, among others, have since been purchased and donated by the H+F Patronage. In 2007 two interventions developed for The Collection One with the help of the Mecenaat could be seen in the Museum: Gerda Steiner & Jörg Lenzinger’s Four Vegetative Sleeping Rooms and Andro Wekua’s Wait to Wait. This last work was purchased by the Patronage. Also 'Apollo' by Olaf Nicolai is made possible by the H+F Patronage and purchased by the museum with support of the Patronage.
In 2009 the H+F Patronage and the museum presented exhibitions of the work by Ryan Gander, Jongenelis & Zijlmans, and the exhibition The Art of Fashion. H+F Patronage and the museum commissioned Pipilotti Rist to produce the permanent video installation 'Let you hair down' in the public foyer.
In 2009, H+F Fashion on the Edge initiated the successful exhibition The Art of Fashion en made it possible to bring Charles Ledray’s installation Mens Suits to the Netherlands (in cooperation with Artangel). In 2009, Han Nefkens announced an exciting new partnership with Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. With José Teunissen and H+F Fashion on the Edge, Nefkens will be advancing experimental developments in fashion. The five-year partnership between H+F Fashion on the Edge and the museum will foster the H+F Fashion Award. A budget of 700,000.00 euros will be made available for exhibitions, commissions, acquisitions and interventions
