Museum Boijmans van Beuningen Foundation

The Museum Boijmans van Beuningen Foundation, founded in 1939 by harbour barons D.G. van Beuningen and W. van der Vorm in cooperation with the director D. Hannema, aims at supporting the general interests of the museum. It achieves this by, for example, acquiring art works at the request of the museum, issuing publications such as the Boijmans Agenda, but also by promoting visits to the museum and recruiting corporate friends, the Special Benefactors.

Special Benefactors are persons, legal entities or companies that support the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen Foundation with a contribution of 2,500 euro per year. In 2010, the Foundation had 52 Special Benefactors. The foundation is the legal owner of the art works that were donated to the museum by private persons, who did not wish the works to become the property of the municipality of Rotterdam. The foundation also acquires ownership of acquisitions through a number of house foundations and funds on name.
