For registration and archiving of its collection, the museum makes use of The Museum System (TMS). In 2009, a project was carried out with the aim of optimising the internal use of the database, among other things by establishing standards and user protocols. The change management stage was successfully completed at the end of 2009. In the coming years, work will be undertaken on further implementing the system. Digitisation projects such as ALMA, but also information for the collection website ‘Online Collection’ is generated by TMS.
Museum Boijmans van Beuningen pays considerable attention to the digitisation of its museum collection. Thanks to digitisation, accessibility to the collection is increased, both internally and externally and on a national and international level.
The museum considers digitising objects as the conservation method of the future. Partly because of this, high demands are made on the quality and durability of image material and object information. The digitisation of the collection takes place on a project basis. In 2010 and 2011, the results of two digitisation projects were presented online: Online Collection and ALMA.
