The festive opening of ‘The Road to Van Eyck’ takes place this coming Saturday. Everyone is welcome. The museum is also organising a symposium about the master painter Jan van Eyck.
The Van Eyck symposium takes place from 11:00 to 14:30, prior to the opening of the exhibition at 15:00. Six experts will talk about ‘The Road to Van Eyck’, including curators Friso Lammertse from Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and Stephan Kemperdick from the Gemäldegalerie from Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, our partner in this special project. The topics will range from painting in western Germany at the start of the 14th century to the stories about the life of the young Jan van Eyck. The speakers will try to provide an impression of what they believe makes the Van Eyck’s paintings, and by extension the exhibition, so intriguing. After the symposium you can view the 90 or so works by Jan van Eyck and his founts of inspiration during the festive opening, to the musical accompaniment of the Retorische Kwartet vocal ensemble.
Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen would like to thank the following foundations, companies and private individuals, whose enthusiastic and generous support has made ‘The Road to Van Eyck’ exhibition possible: Turing Foundation, Robeco, BankGiro Loterij, Rijksdienst voor Cultureel Erfgoed, SNS REAAL Fonds, VSBfonds, Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds (mede mogelijk gemaakt uit het Breeman Talle Fonds), Aon Artscope, Unilever, Nedspice, Ploum Lodder Princen, Shell, Blockbusterfonds en De kring van Van Eyck.
