Art Rocks!: Watch, listen, vote or join in!

Art Rocks!, the cross-media project that builds a bridge between art and music, is now in full swing. The entries for the Art Rocks! Boijmans Music Competition promise a lot for the final on 23 June. The workshops and events have also generated quite a few musical surprises in the museum. Musicians, music lovers, and anybody else interested in this unique event can watch, listen, vote and join in Art Rocks! via www.artrocks.nl and in the museum. The event will run until 23 June.

Art Rocks! Boijmans Music Competition: vote or join in!
Are you musician? Or do you have musicians amongst your friends? Then watch and/or share this video flyer. Musicians working in all genres have until 9 May to let themselves be inspired by an art work in the museum’s collection, make their own track based on it, upload it to www.artrocks.nl and have a chance to win the star prize of 1000 euro.

Kunstuur [Art Hour], a television programme by the Dutch broadcaster Avro, has invited well-known musicians to go to our collection for inspiration. Each musician chooses a work of art and makes a composition based on it. From Ellen ten Damme to Carel Kraayenhof, from De Staat to Tim Akkerman. The series, entitled ‘Art Tracks’ can be seen on Dutch television every Saturday at 5 pm. The final broadcast is on 9 June. A fine source of inspiration!

A lot of musical talent has already entered a track. Such as Drs. B, who sailed on the Vlaardingen Ferry for ten years and chose ‘The harbour of Rotterdam’ (1907) by Paul Signac as his inspiration. The painting struck a personal note, which led to his chords. His hiphop is an ode to the harbour in his home town.
Jazz musician Pitto composed a track to ‘Couple aux têtes pleines de nuages’ (1936) by Salvador Dalí. His number ‘You and me’ is a beautiful musical reflection on this painting. It contains few words, but a lot of expression. The piano ripples and flows just like the clouds floating by in the painting.

Has this whet your appetite for the rest of the entries? Everyone can listen to the tracks on www.artrocks.nl and you can vote for your favourite.
The grand finale of Art Rocks! Boijmans Music Competition is on Saturday 23 June from 8 pm to 11 pm in the museum. Concerts will take place throughout the museum. Come and enjoy!
