Art Rocks! will be launched in the museum during Museum Night on 10 March with a series of performances. Art Rocks! has been made possible by is the BankGiro Loterij, the Netherlands’ cultural lottery.
During Rotterdam’s Museum Night, the museum is the setting for the launch of Art Rocks! Two concerts by jazz trumpeter Eric Vloeimans and singer-songwriter Lucky Fonz III will mark the start of a year of art and music.
In 2001 Eric Vloeimans received the VPRO/Boy Edgar Prize for his contribution to jazz music. In 2011 he was awarded the Gouden Notekraker (Golden Nutcracker) for the most remarkable artistic venture of the previous season. In 2006 Lucky Fonz III won the Grote Prijs van Nederland (The Grand Prize of the Netherlands) in the singer-songwriter category. Since then his career has been unstoppable. He has played on the street, in bars and clubs and at festivals such as Noorderslag and Lowlands. And on television: since 2008 Lucky has been the resident musician on the ‘De Wereld Draait Door’ (The World Keeps Turning).
This spring Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is inviting musicians to take inspiration from the museum’s collection. Art Rocks! is a nationwide music competition in partnership with De Grote Prijs van Nederland. The museum will be hosting a variety of workshops, events and concerts and there is also a musical multimedia tour available.
The grand finale of Boijmans’ music competition Art Rocks! will take place on Saturday 23 June with performances by the finalists.
