A hat that dances on the wind, a girl who does a handstand or flowering blossoms. Marijke van Warmerdam (1959) often chooses everyday subjects, which we generally pass over in daily life.
Museum Boijmans van Beuningen presents the retrospective exhibition ‘Marijke van Warmerdam – Close by in the distance. In addition to the film loops with which Van Warmerdam gained international fame as of the 90s, the museum displays photographic work, sculptures, installations and painted film stills on canvas. Marijke van Warmerdam’s oeuvre invites visitors to look at the world around us with different eyes.
Various activities are arranged around the exhibition by the museum, in collaboration with the artist. In the auditorium of the museum a documentary about Marijke van Warmerdam, made by director and producer Rudolf Evenhuis, will be regularly shown during the exhibition. From October, a shortened version of this documentary can be viewed on arttube.boijmans.nl. On Sunday 30 October, you are invited to come and listen to an interview between Marijke van Warmerdam and guest curator Jan Debbaut in the museum. (Dutch spoken, make a reservation here)
