Elmgreen & Dragset in the Submarine Wharf

Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen will once again host an exhibition in Rotterdam’s harbour. The museum and the Port of Rotterdam have chosen Elmgreen & Dragset to create next year’s presentation. The Scandinavian art duo, best known for their Prada shop in the desert at Marfa, Texas, will create a hallucinatory experience in the Submarine Wharf in the summer of 2011. The exact details of the art project will remain confidential until the last minute.

George Condo: Mental States

The American artist George Condo investigates the genre of portraiture. His paintings and sculptures are inspired mainly by caricatures, historical portraits and mythological figures. Condo’s strange compositions and rough style of painting gives his work has a surreal quality. The exhibition, on view this summer, is a partnership with the Hayward Gallery in London.

Han Nefkens - 10 Years of Patronage

This summer Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen looks back over the first ten years of Han Nefkens’ patronage with the presentation of a special catalogue and exhibition in the Willem van der Vorm gallery. In order to share his art collection and his vision with the general public Nefkens has established partnerships with many museums and art institutions in the Netherlands and abroad.

Futuro - Constructing Utopia

Following a thorough restoration, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is exhibiting one of its most recent acquisitions: a mobile holiday home by the Finnish architect Matti Suuronen. The so-called Futuro (1968) is on display together with objects from the collection’s entire time span. The common thread in the exhibition is the quest for the perfectly constructed form.

The Collection Enriched
Until April 2013

From Bosch to Goya to Magritte: Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is showing its impressive collection of European painting in a totally new light. For a period of two years the collection will be enriched with masterpieces on loan from collections in the Netherlands and abroad. The Collection Enriched affords a unique opportunity to view the finest paintings from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century.

Helly Oestreicher - Small Works

The ceramic sculptures and drawings of Helly Oestreicher (1936) are represented in the collections of many museums in the Netherlands. In the summer of 2011 Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen will be showing a selection of her extraordinary works.

Machteld Wijlacker - DOCK
Until 25 September 2011

One of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen’s most fascinating and complex spaces is the gallery in which Richard Serra erected his steel walls in the 1980s. In the exhibition ‘DOCK’ Machteld (Max) Wijlacker takes on the challenge of making a new work in this space. She has created a monumental, rhythmic and layered installation from carefully selected salvaged wood.
