On Sunday 26 June artists will occupy the museum’s courtyard to demonstrate against the governments cuts to arts funding. In keeping with the frugal diet the Dutch government has in store for artists, the museum will serve the demonstrators peanut soup and dry bread.
On 27 February more than 650 artists camped in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam to draw attention to the position of visual artists. This gave birth to the organisation Schuilen in Het Rijks (Sheltering in the Rijksmuseum), which will continue to fight for a better art and cultural policy. For the organisation’s second demonstration artists will occupy the courtyard of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and will pose questions to politicians and policy makers. The museum will remain open to visitors during the demonstration.
