Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen looks back on the first ten years of Han Nefkens’ patronage with the presentation of a catalogue entitled ‘Han Nefkens, 10 jaar mecenas’ in the Willem van der Vorm gallery.
The extensive catalogue contains interviews, background information and essays about Han Nefkens’ extraordinary encounters with art. The chronological logbook is divided into seven sections, each representing an aspect of Han Nefkens’ activities as a writer, collector and patron of the arts: H+F Collection, H+F Curatorial Grant, Art Aids, H+F Patronage, H+F Fashion on the Edge, Fundación Han Nefkens and Han Nefkens as author. The catalogue also contains a survey of approximately 500 works in the H+F Collection. The catalogue and exhibition have been designed by the visual artist Milou van Ham.
The exhibition includes videos ion which artists and designers talk about the opportunities that H+F Patronage has afforded them. There is also a video interview between journalist and presenter Hanneke Groenteman and the art activist, patron and collector Han Nefkens.
Over the past decade Han Nefkens has funded numerous exhibitions, interventions, commissions and acquisitions at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and other museums. These include the successful fashion exhibition ‘The Art of Fashion’ in 2009 and the permanent installation ‘Let Your Hair Down’ by video artist Pipilotti Rist, which is on display in the museum’s entrance area. In 2009 Han Nefkens announced that he will renew his association with Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen until 2015 via his Fashion on the Edge initiative.
