The Swiss duo Andres Lutz and Anders Guggisberg present their ideal studio in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. Lutz & Guggisberg have worked together since 1996 to produce a wide-ranging body of work including paintings, sculptures and photographs.
This summer the museum invited the artists to install a temporary studio in one of the museum’s large galleries. They have spent ten days transforming a theatre set they made at the beginning of June 2010 for the Stadttheater Bern into a three-dimensional installation that the public can wander through. No detail has been omitted: carefully placed used coffee cups and props are spread throughout the space. Lutz & Guggisberg’s work is characterised by the three-dimensional design of very ordinary things. Their absurd constructions are interspersed with sculptures in which everyday objects play the main role. They create a highly personal and imaginative world in models, paintings and photographs.
Lutz & Guggisberg continue the tradition of Dadaism is their own way. Their work twists and turns between virgin white and the deepest black to arrive at a style that creates a new space out of apparent chaos.
