Henk and Victoria de Heus-Zomer have assembled an outstanding collection of contemporary art from Beijing. A selection from their collection can now be seen in Rotterdam. The museum has also commissioned several Chinese artists to make new works specially for the exhibition.

Henk and Victoria de Heus-Zomer’s collection of contemporary Chinese art includes works by big names such as Ai Weiwei and Zhang Xiaogang. The majority of the artists represented in the collection are stars in China. Their works will be grouped in seven galleries in the museum. The couple were interviewed on 13 May on De Wereld Draait Door about the collection they have built since the 1990s.

Concurrently the museum has invited the artist Liu Wei to make an installation for the series Sensory Spaces. Much of Liu’s work refers to architecture and urbanisation. An overview of his work can be seen on these websites: http://whitecube.com/artists/liu_wei/ and http://www.lehmannmaupin.com/artists/liu-wei.
