Rotterdam Design Prize 2009
Registration has started

Registration for Rotterdam Design Prize 2009 has opened. Designers, design agencies and clients are invited to submit their most high-profile, trail-blazing designs until 8 May 2009. The most important creative visions in design from the last two years 2009 Rotterdam Design Prize will be selected for the Rotterdam Design Prize. During the exhibition of the ten nominees in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen an international panel of judges will choose the winner.

Any stylist, designer, design agency, clients, intermediaries or company in the Netherlands can compete for the Rotterdam Design Prize. The Dutch nomination committee includes Matthijs van Dijk, Nikki Gonnissen, Arjen Ribbens, Helen van Ruiten and José Teunissen. They will select the ten nominees for the prize and the exhibition in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. The winner of the Rotterdam Design Prize 2009 will be selected during the exhibition by an international jury and will win a cash prize of 15,000 euros.

The Design Prize is a national prize set up in 1963 and awarded every two years. It spotlights the shared qualities of Dutch design and encourages public debate about design. Dutch design is vibrant and exciting, and is the focus of considerable international interest. Much has changed in the world of design since the Design Prize was introduced. Since 2007 the emphasis has shifted from the autonomous product to the designer’s vision.

As from 19 September to 10 January 2010 Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen will be exhibiting the ten nominations for the Rotterdam Design Prize 2009. Different positions, meaning trend-setting creative visions, are presented in the exhibition. It will reveal associations and contradictions in the qualities of Dutch design today.
