Art4Kids: strictly prohibited for (grand) parents!
Sales exhibition for children

28 April - 6 May 2012

During the May holiday, a new edition of Art4Kids will take place: a unique sales exhibition for children in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. Children will get the chance of buying a work of art - without their parents or grandparents interfering. Art works of such a high quality that their parents may very well be jealous.

Twenty-six Dutch artists have each been asked to make 75 works of art, so that the children can choose from a wide selection, including prints and images, one of which is a 3D print. Art4Kids is open to children between the ages of 5 and 18, and they can acquire their first piece of art for the nominal price of €35.

Festive opening
Art4Kids will be opened in festive style on Saturday 28 April at 11.30 am by director Sjarel Ex and Sebastian Wulff (Luxor from SpangaS). After the opening, all children can visit the museum free of charge for a week in order to choose their favourite work of art. Art4Kids has become something of a tradition; Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen has been organising this exhibition for more than ten years. Previous editions of this sales exhibition were always a great success, with around 1500 children participating each year.

Learning to look at art
In order to provide a proper preparation for buying a work of art, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen will be organising special tours through the museum for the whole family. In this way, the art-collectors-to-be are trained to look at art. Only children will be admitted to the exhibition and the art work can taken home directly after it has been purchased.

Participating artists
No less than 26 artists have been selected by the director of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. They have been asked to produce a limited edition of a work of art especially for this sales exhibition. The artists who will be making their work available are: Daan Botlek, Karin van Dam, Rudy d'Arnaud Gerkens, Ada Dispa, Suzan Drummen, Lizan Freijsen, Maartje Folkeringa, Helen Frik, Hans Hovy, Evelyne Janssen, Ad de Jong, Paul Klemann, Kinke Kooi, Olaf Mooij, Paul Nassenstein, Serge Onnen, Johan van Oord, Bertjan Pot, Mike Redman, Paul de Reus, Lies Ros, Johanna Schweizer, Tanja Smeets, Rik Smits, Anne-Marie van Sprang and Andre van de Wijdeven.
The participating artists fully encourage this initiative, as shown by the following reaction from Serge Onnen: “Be inquisitive, ask questions, play. Start doing that as a child and never stop; that is how you change the world.”

With thanks to Rabobank Rotterdam, which supports the educational activities of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen with a long-term agreement and thus make this year’s Art4Kids possible. In addition, the Georgetina Foundation supports 50 children from Rotterdam in the purchase of a work of art.

Children up to 18 years old always enjoy free admission to Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. On Wednesday, all visitors can enter free of charge. The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 11.00 am to 5.00 pm.
