Four film days at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen

PRESS RELEASE
Four film days at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen
Sunday afternoons: 10,17, 24 February and 16 March 2008
From 15.00

Following the success of last year’s film programme, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is again hosting four days of art films. The films will be screened using their original media thus providing access to treasures from the museum’s moving image collection. The City Editorial Board has invited four artists to select the films: Lydia Schouten, Ronald Cornelissen, Q.S. Serafijn and Fucking Good Art (Rob Hamelijnck and Nienke Terpsma). They will each provide a short introduction before the screening of their selected films. Entry is free and reservations are not required.

Moving image collection
At the end of the 1970s Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen developed a growing interest in film and video. Since that period the museum has acquired film and video works by artists including Joseph Beuys, Walter de Maria, Bruce Nauman, Claes Oldenburg and Andy Warhol. The acquisitions often took place in the context of an exhibition. In this way the museum has acquired works by Miguel-Angel Cardenas, Rineke Dijkstra, William Kentridge and in recent years by Yael Bartana, David Claerbout and Aernout Mik. The films are nearly always shown on a monitor. Now the City Editorial Board has chosen to show the films and videos on a large screen in the museum’s ‘cinema’.
