Last chance to see work by the Han Nefkens Fashion Award’s winner

The ‘Structural Mode’ exhibition by Rejina Pyo is set to close in just 10 days from
today. Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is presenting this Korean designer’s
collection in association with the H+F Fashion on the Edge Foundation.
This presentation has already been seen by many visitors, in part because of the surge for
the Van Eyck exhibition. Seven colourful gowns embody Pyo’s long-term research into
fashion and art. Each of the objects is a combination of wearable clothing and abstract
sculpture. The presentation includes a video of the catwalk show of her graduation collection
for her Central Saint Martins MA during London Fashion Week. On Friday, 8 February the
museum will exceptionally be open in the evening, from 20:00 to 22:00.
Design in Boijmans
The ‘Rejina Pyo - Structural Mode’ presentation is part of the ‘Design in Boijmans’
programme. Design will be taking centre stage at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen over
the coming years. With a revamped presentation of the museum’s design collection and
various design exhibitions the museum is also devoting plenty of attention to design in 2013.

Major autumn exhibition: The Future of Fashion is Now
In the autumn of 2014 Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is staging ‘The Future of Fashion
is Now’ exhibition. This is the long-awaited sequel to ‘The Art of Fashion’ presentation in
2009, which was also produced in association with the H+F Fashion on the Edge
Foundation. In ‘The Future of Fashion is Now’, selected non-Western designers and artists
from various continents, such as Rejina Pyo (Korea) and Hussein Chalayan (Cyprus), will
take the public on a journey into the world of cutting-edge fashion. In countries where there
is hardly a fashion tradition to speak of - until recently or not at all - we are seeing the
emergence of fashion trends that have never come into contact with important Western
influences such as postmodernism, conceptualism and modernism. This means that these
designers can transpose their own traditions into fashion that possesses a personal identity,
while at the same time transposing their roots and history into a universal visual idiom.
