Live radio from the entrance area
19 December 2009 – 7 February 2010
This winter the Swiss artist Moritz Ebinger will be broadcasting live radio from the entrance area of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. As the presenter he will be inviting guests into his radio studio to talk about the colour red. Everyone can listen to Radio Red live from 2.00 p.m. on 107.5 FM every Sunday and visitors to the museum can also attend the broadcasts.
Moritz Ebinger is building a radio studio with microphones, a table, chairs, pens, record turntables and other objects. He is covering all the objects with a thick layer of red paint. Ebinger will be making radio broadcasts about the colour red from this studio in the entrance area. He will conduct interviews with other artists, students, random visitors, politicians and museum staff.
From 19 December 2009 until 7 February 2010 everyone will be able to listen to Radio Red live on Sundays. In the broadcasts Ebinger will talk about his fascination with the colour red as a symbol of love, hate, romance, fire, communism and more. He’ll tell stories—true and fictional—and get his guests to do the same. Unexpected and extraordinary conversations will be sparked off by red attributes, a radio play or specially composed music. According to Ebinger it is possible to have more profound conversations by concentrating on one colour.
Moritz Ebinger describes himself as an independent, rebellious Jack-of all- trades. He draws, paints on walls and makes radio programmes, builds installations and works with different materials—he has, for instance, built ships from crispbread. He is best known for his murals; his most recent can be seen in the KAdE exhibition space in Amersfoort.
You can also listen to Moritz Ebinger’s live broadcasts at home on Sundays on the website. From 20 December Radio Red can be heard continuously on the Internet and at the radio studio in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen.
Radio Red was made possible in part by The Netherlands Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture and the Dutch Cultural Broadcasting Fund (STIFO).
