20 – 28 October 2007
During the autumn half-term holidays Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is organising a special selling exhibition for children. Children may buy the exhibited works by famous artists but their parents are allowed to watch only through a camera. In fact the exhibition Kids Buy Art is strictly off limits for adults.
From 20 to 27 October Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is showing dozens of limited-edition lithographs by famous artists, which children may buy for 35 euros. The names of the artists are covered up so that the children will not be influenced by the famous names but simply choose the works they like most.
Only children from 5-18 year of age may enter the exhibition. Parents and grandparents may watch from a special waiting room that is linked to the gallery via a camera. The children can thus tell their guardians about their chosen art work without being influenced in their selection. The exhibition ends with an open viewing on Sunday 28 October during which adults may also view the works that the children have bought.
This is the fourth time that Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen has organised Kids Buy Art. The earlier editions were a great success with on average 1500 works sold. With these exhibitions the museum aims to introduce children to art, allow them to develop their own taste and offer them the opportunity to start their own collections.
Children enjoy free entrance to Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. The selected works must be paid for immediately (maximum of two works per child) and are available for collection or delivery the third weekend in November.
Saturday 20 – 27 October, 11am-17pm, closed on Monday: kids buy art.
Sunday 28 October, 11am-17pm: open viewing.
Weekend 18 – 19 November, 11am-17pm: works that were bought can be picked up.
Journalists and photographers are more than welcome by appointment (adults included!)
