Videos on art & design
Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is the first museum in the Netherlands to launch its own video channel on the Internet. ArtTube will run up-to-the-minute and historical videos on art and design. Starting on 9 October visitors will be able to go to www.arttube.nl and be amazed at what’s on offer.
ArtTube is an Internet platform for art professionals and art lovers. As well as videos about artists, exhibitions and the preparations for them, and the museum collection, ArtTube will feature recordings of lectures and reports of art events at home and abroad. It will also be a custodian of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen’s history: for instance, Polygoon Films will revive memories of the museum as it was in the last century.
A pick of the films that can be seen from 9 October—portraits of the ten nominees for the 2009 Rotterdam Design Prize, a lecture by Pipilotti Rist, a remix of a film from the 1930s about the construction of the museum and interviews with the museum’s VIP guests. The website will be regularly updated with new videos.
Alongside this platform Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is currently developing the Online Collection website and the ALMA website for specialists, which links the image to the artefact. In the spring a large part of the collection will be made accessible to the public online. In the autumn of 2010 it will be possible to link items in the collection to paintings and prints in which those objects are depicted.
Every video on ArtTube will ultimately be linked to the collection items on the Online Collection website, to objects from ALMA and other relevant information on the Internet. The websites complement one another and thus provide the audience with detailed information about the collection and the exhibitions. All websites are in Dutch and English.
ArtTube is an initiative of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and has been developed with the aid of VSBfonds, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen’s partner in education.
